Six Efficient Email Marketing Tips

When you run a business that serves a variety of clients, it can be hard to figure out how to reach everyone without overwhelming them with unwanted information. Here’s my advice for making your email communications more efficient and engaging.

  1. Design for mobile first.

If you have customers who have signed up for your email newsletter, chances are high that they are reading it on a mobile device. If you are using email marketing software like MailChimp or Constant Contact, you can look at your analytics and see what percentage of subscribers are viewing your communications on a mobile device versus desktop or tablet.

  2. Keep it short.

Keep your email short enough to read within a minute. If you need to say more, provide a link to your website for subscribers who want to spend more time reading. Be mindful that some email clients will clip emails that are very long.

  3. Let your brand shine.

If you have a retail storefront, you are not only selling products or services, you are selling the in-person experience. Your email communications should reflect that.

  4. Customize communications.

Ask subscribers to select preferences on what types of information they want to receive and how often they want to hear from you. They could select from categories like Events or New Products for example. When it’s time to send out a message, you know that it’s going to the people who are interested in engaging with your business.

  5. Have a clear call to action.

Try to hone your email to one or two calls to action (CTA). A CTA can include clicking a link to your website, calling a phone number, or booking a ticket to an event. A great way to make your CTA stand out is to format it as a button at the end of your message.

  6. Show your face.

Try including pictures of employees serving customers, people browsing or enjoying an event. People react more to human faces than they do to anything else. When they see other people enjoying your product or service, they develop a positive opinion about your business.
